CULTUREALLY
Bridging the gap between culture and us
CONTEXT
The first things to come to mind when we think of culture are food and the festivities we partake in. But, culture is more than that. As we face rapid shifts in our lives due to globalisation we need to strengthen our cultural identity and foster a sense of belonging in our community.
MY ROLE
I was part of a team of four that was tasked by NUS Baba House to address the relevance and importance of cultural identity, heritage and preservation in Singapore through a mobile or web based interface.
For this project, I was involved in user research and product design. Screens shown here were done by me.

INSIGHT
There are minimal opportunities to experience culture in Singapore.
Most people experience culture when celebrating festivities and visiting exhibitions at museums. This makes interaction with culture sporadic. Chances to interact with cultures aside from their own are also rare.
Cultureally brings culture into the everyday lives of users through discovering places/artifacts that are culturally significant across various cultures. Think Geocaching.
INSIGHT
There is a surface understanding of culture and heritage.
Traditional foods were commonly associated with culture amongst our participants. Other aspects of culture like craftsmanship and oral expressions were not immediately obvious.
Users are encouraged to reflect through log prompts that relate to the found treasure. Tidbits of information are also shared with the user to
INSIGHT
Most people experience culture with other people.
People often participated in activities relating to culture and heritage in a social group setting, with family or friends. Experiencing culture alone was rare.
Culturally enhances the social aspect of experiencing culture. With a social feed, users can interact with other people within and outside of their circle. This introduces more perspectives for a user.
